Pixar’s beloved Toy Story franchise is bringing even more star power to its highly anticipated fifth installment.
Academy Award-winning actress Penélope Cruz has officially joined the Spanish-language voice cast of ‘Toy Story 5’, lending her voice to Flamenco, a forgotten toy whose role is tied to one of the film’s most intriguing new storylines.
According to Disney, Flamenco is one of several toys that have been left behind in an increasingly technology-driven world. The character will appear in a special scene involving a community of abandoned toys living in a small garden house, adding a fresh layer to the film’s exploration of change, nostalgia, and friendship.
Cruz shared her excitement about becoming part of one of animation’s most iconic franchises. “I truly enjoyed recording it, and I hope you will enjoy it too when you see the film”.
Her participation is part of Disney’s ongoing effort to connect with audiences across Spain and Latin America by incorporating internationally recognized talent into localized versions of its films.
Cruz isn’t the only global star joining the Toy Story universe. Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny will voice Pizza with Sunglasses, a toy described by Disney as a member of the same forgotten-toy community with a ‘cool and mysterious’ personality.
Meanwhile, Argentine music producer Bizarrap will make his animated debut as a Garden Gnome. The producer celebrated the announcement on social media, writing: “The unimaginable places you can reach by doing what you love”.
Music will also play a significant role in the film. Global superstar Taylor Swift has contributed an original song titled ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’, inspired by Jessie’s emotional journey. The track is scheduled for release on June 5, just days before the movie arrives in theaters.
Swift recently reflected on the opportunity, saying: “I’ve always dreamed of writing for these characters that I’ve adored since I was five years old”.
The film is directed by Andrew Stanton, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Pixar classics including ‘WALL-E’ and ‘Finding Nemo’. His return to the franchise has fueled anticipation among longtime fans eager to see how the next chapter unfolds.
